Apart from the pioneering companies based on Information Technology, there were other large-scale companies like; Unilever, John Keells, Pearson Lanka and much more, in total there were 36 companies offering 46 stalls at the fair, thus offering a variety of choices for students from all backgrounds.
An Insight into the Career Fair
This event was initially held in a rather small scale at the IIT premises in Wellawatte and now with the developing interest of the students as well as top-notch employers to hire the best of the best, IIT started utilizing the BMICH premises from last year to organize the career fair in a large scale and this has always been a way for IIT students to have the right contact to get the very best jobs or rather internships.
Even before the event commenced, students started gathering dressed in professional attire with their CV’s and other documents decked up. All of them were eager and ready to identify potential employees they would want to work under. Even the representatives of the relevant companies were all ready to fish for new talent as they started arranging their stalls and eyeing for anyone who caught their attention. A few core competencies the relevant parties asked for from the students were work experience, the ability to work under pressure, friendly attitude and a fresh perspective for their companies.
Compared to last year’s Career Fair, this year’s IIT Career Fair was more comprehensive with many varieties and choices. Many students were given placement offers at high-end companies, thus proving the success of such an event. Even with regard to those searching for internships, there was quite a fruitful number who were chosen and were keen on starting off work as soon as possible.
