We all know and have heard of IEEE Day where all the tech communities around the world gather to celebrate the establishment of the professional body IEEE which is, as we all know is dedicated to enhancing and advancing technological innovation and excellence. Thus, celebrating IEEE day all around the world is a natural reaction of all the IT geeks out there.
A little bit about UCSC IEEE Branch
While being established in the year 2011, IEEE student branch of UCSC has many accomplishments and have organized many events in the hope of spreading awareness of latest technological advances across the IEEE student branches island wide. We can say without any setbacks or doubts that IEEE student branch of UCSC aims to enrich their peers with modern technological knowledge in order to become more innovative and radical in their journey to the industry.
What happened at IEEE Day 2016?
In 2016 UCSC held the IEEE Day for the second time with the theme “Innovations and emerging tech”. As per tradition, many undergraduate students from various universities gathered to celebrate and participate in much interesting interactive topics such as “Deep Learning”, “Virtual Reality”, “Augmented Reality” and etc. The most highlighting fact of all these events held was the enthusiasm rocketed from the participants.
Among many guest speeches, Anjana Somathilake – Senior Director (Engineering and Architecture) at CAKE LABS talked about Augmented Reality while Keshan Sodimana spoke about Machine Learning and Ayoma Wijethunga elaborated on Recent Trends in Cyber Security. With the various tech talk sessions from various personalities, the audience of nearly 500 undergraduate students were enriched with the modern knowledge and advancing technology.
What can we expect at IEEE Day 2017?
With the global theme as “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow” IEEE Day hosted by UCSC will be moving with the corresponding theme of “For an age when machines start thinking”. In 2017, there’s a lot more you will expect and that is exactly what the IEEE branch of UCSC is readily prepared to deliver you.
There are many interactive and captivating speeches from top personalities in the tech industry who are in senior positions and who are working with modern and more advanced technologies. On the 11th of October at the University of Colombo School of Computing premises you will be able to witness few of the greatest advancement in the tech industry and in the tech community of the future generation. With that being said, we have to mention that one of the main
objectives of this event is to inspire and encourage the youth to obtain IEEE membership in the future. This will not just encourage the students but will set out a focus on their journey.
