The GCE O/L examination is perhaps the second largest hurdle that a student in Sri Lanka would face. The first would be the Grade 5 scholarship exam. Now a lot of parents push their children to choose the correct field following their O/L examination as they feel that the child’s future would rely on it. That is accurate to a certain extent.
That being said, a persistent problem is that after O/Ls, most students are confused as to which stream they should pick. This problem escalates if the students are unsure of what they want to do as a career as well.
As you can see from the screenshot above, all you need to do is select your stream, subject of your choice, preferred language and also choose if you want to take part as an individual or in a group class. From there, the results of the teachers are shown with contact details for you to go through and examine.
Gurupaara wants to take things a step further
The team at SurfEdge have really been working hard to make sure that A/L students make the right choice when sitting for examinations. To that extent, Gurupaara now offers a step by step process on how you can start your GCE A/Ls and achieve the best you can. The process is done via a number of videos on YouTube that guide potential students through the process of A/Ls such as selecting you’re A/L stream, choosing the right medium (language) and finding good A/L teacher.
Kicking things off with Gurupaara Steps
An interesting note is that the first step in the process is to actually forget about your O/L results. Why? Because it really won’t matter for your A/L examination. You may have been ranked highest for most of the subjects during your O/L’s, but that doesn’t mean that you can expect the same from your A/L results as well. Similarly, just because you didn’t perform as expected for your A/Ls, that also doesn’t mean that you can’t achieve high in you’re A/L’s.
Making the right choice
The video tutorials are short in duration but quite informative. As stated above, Gurupaara offers a step by step process on how you can start your GCE A/Ls by selecting the correct stream, subjects, medium (language) and also using Gurupaara’s own platform to find the best teachers for you if you need them.
It’s all in the data
The team has also carried out analytics to see if the platform is viable or not. According to their findings, the Sinhala series got almost 3x the views (2304) as opposed to the English series with 710 views.
This is actually the first time in Sri Lanka that a platform of this nature exists. Done in collaboration with undergraduates from local universities who specialize in specific subjects, the team at SurfEdge and Gurupaara have certainly pulled out all the stops to make sure that those sitting for their GCE A/L exams make the right choice.
