“FIT Future Careers”, the annual career fair of the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Moratuwa marked another successful year on 7th of April 2017. Organized by the Information Technology Society (INTECS), it is the faculty’s long held recruitment program for each year’s graduates.
Focused on the two degree programs; BSc. (Hons) in Information Technology and BSc. (Hons) in Information Technology and Management, “FIT Future Careers 2017” paved the career way for more than 250 students to be graduated this year. The program comprised of four events; opening ceremony, interview session, technical session and finally the panel discussion.
After a traditional start to the opening ceremony at the Civil Engineering Auditorium, Mr. Anoukh Jayawardena, President of INTECS, welcomed the gathering. The event also saw another two enriching speeches by Prof. Ananda Jayawardena, Vice Chancellor and Prof. Rahula Attalage, Deputy Vice Chancellor, University of Moratuwa.
University dignitaries as Mr. P.M. Karunarathne, Dean, Faculty of Information Technology, sponsor delegates, academic and non-academic staff of the faculty, members of INTECS and IT undergraduates attended the opening ceremony. With the delivery of Vote of Thanks by Mr. Ramindu Senarath, Secretary of INTECS, the opening ceremony came to an end.
It was then time for the interview session for the final year students. The event had a participation of 25 companies as potential employers of these students. The aim of the interview session was to provide faculty’s year graduates with a wide range of employment opportunities while enabling the industry’s employers to headhunt the best suited candidates for their offers.
Then a technical session conducted for the undergraduates of level 1, 2 and 3 followed the interviews. “DirectFN”, “Omobio (Pvt) Ltd.”, “hSenidMobile Solutions” and “SimCentricTechnologies” were the four companies who lead the technical session. This series was structured as a mini workshop and was able to see an enthusiastic participation from the students.
With the aim of benefiting the final year students and third year students who are about to begin their internships, it was the Student Industry Forum running parallel to the interviews. Ms. Shenali Welikala, a third year undergraduate from the Faculty of Information Technology acted as the moderator for the panel discussion comprised of following members:
- Mr. Chandana Ranasinghe – COO, Auxenta
- Mr. Sukith Nanayakkara – Manager DW/BI Services, CMMS
- Mr. Geeshapathi Perera – Technical Project Manager, Omobio (Pvt) Ltd.
- Mr. Arjuna Nanayakkara – General Manager, DirectFN
- Mr. Prasad Gunawardane – Senior Business Analyst, DirectFN
The discussion revolved around topics such as expectations from fresh graduates, the standards, opportunities of the Software Industry and entrepreneurship.

Setting the bar high, “FIT Future Careers 2017” came to an end with INTECS challenging the years to come at the Faculty of Information Technology.
