The first investment in Sri Lanka by Fairfield Holdings took place during the end of the month of May 2018. It was with none other than the Alethea group Sri Lanka. This collaboration is portrayed as coming together as one of the oldest private schools in Sri Lanka and Investment Company Fairfield Holdings. The central emphasis of the investment is to enable Alethea Group to expand its scope and activities, nurturing an even bigger expanse in the currently expanding educational sector in Sri Lanka.
The transaction was arranged and supervised by M Power Capital which was responsible for the overall transaction as well as a sell-side advisory for Alethea, while PWC was the Adviser on the buy-side for Fairfield Holdings. Fairfield Holdings instigated the acquisition with an attitude of enabling both backward and forward integration in the local education system.
“To light the flame of learning in our children“
The Alethea Group comprises of Alethea School, Alethea International School and Alethea Institute of Management Services. This family business was established way back in 1928. The Group is now being run successfully by the 3rd generation of the family. The vision at Alethea is “To light the flame of learning in our children, promoting lifelong education that is an integral part of good citizenship”. The management is determined with a mission “to committing itself to excellence in the provision of education through the facilitation of inherent creativity and initiatives in all its children whilst inculcating high moral values and social responsibility”.
Alethea has an affiliation with the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka. Due to the well-maintained relationships, the Ministry directly provides the teaching staff to the management. The students can pursue their studies under the National Curriculum, Cambridge international and Edexcel international. Alethea students can sit as school candidates for O/L and A/L exams in the national curriculum.
Encouraging different learnings

The management provides continuous support in providing opportunities for the members of the staff to improve their knowledge and skills.
The school comprises of lively classrooms with separate reading corners, a spacious music room, and a multipurpose room with a mini library, an IT suite and an indoor and outdoor play area for the students to engage in play activities. Primary and Secondary schools consist of up-to-date student friendly libraries, Science laboratories, Design and Technology laboratories, rooms for Art and Crafts, Dance, Drama, Music, IT labs and an Auditorium.
Alethea has made necessary investments to encourage different types of learning styles for students under their platform. At Alethea, interactive whiteboards stand out as an excellent resource for not only visual learners but for Auditory and kinesthetic learners as well. The Management has made it a necessity to offer internet access to all secondary school learners, to nurture the existing teaching and learning process.
Here’s a testimony of an outstanding product of Alethea, Kusal Lokuge, DPhil (Ph.D.) student at the University of Oxford (University of Oxford NDPH Scholar) and past student of Alethea.
“What makes Alethea standout is its emphasis on producing well-rounded students who excel in both the classroom and the sporting field. My time at Alethea not only laid a solid academic foundation for my future endeavors, but instilled upon me the importance of teamwork, comradeship, and the invaluable notion of welcoming both the highs and lows in life with open arms. Alethea to me was more than just a school. It was a second home, where teaching was never bound to the designated class hours. It was a place where everyone from the principal to the librarian shows genuine interest in your success. Not only did my 13 years at Alethea play an influential role in making me the person I am, but it also left me with a set of memories and friends that would last a lifetime. And for that, I will always be grateful.”
